An ink set, six legs, and a stolen drawing…

Marvin is a beetle. He and his family live behind the kitchen cabinets in the Pompaday’s New York City apartment. James Pompaday and Marvin become fast friends when James discovers that Marvin has a fantastic ability to draw intricate, little drawings. Of course, it’s this skill and the fact that James’ parents think that he is the one that is making the drawings, that James and Marvin are drawn into a scheme to fake the burglary of a famous Albrecht Dürer drawing from the MET art museum. Will James and Marvin be able to recreate the famous drawing? Will Marvin make it safely back home, or will he be lost at the art museum forever?

A plane-crash, weird birds, and a group of teenagers with an anti-gravity device…

Team Killbot, a talented group of high-school students, is headed to Japan for the Robot Soccer World Championships when their plane crashes under mysterious circumstances. The teens, find themselves alone in a strange place, with flora and fauna they don’t recognize. Have they been transported to another planet? Where did the strange device they find in the plane’s cargo hold come from? What will they eat? Where will they find water? What dangers lurk in the woods that surround the damaged aircraft? The team must work together to solve these problems while searching for a way home.

If they’re bleeding from their eyes, you can bet there’s a problem

I listened to the audiobook in approximately 10 hours over the course of 41 listening sessions, some of which were as short as 5 minutes, because, well, I don’t have to drive far to get to work.

Let’s just say there’s zombie chasing, and teeth-gnashing, and blood gushing from eyes, noses, and ears.

Oh, but there’s a twist at the end, and a clear lead into book two, “Immunity,” which appears to be coming out on July 2nd of this year. So, maybe don’t skip on to the next post just yet.

Wishtree is a cute story for middle-grade readers. The main character of the story is Red, a large, old oak tree. Red has witnessed many things in her long life, both good and bad. In the story, an act of hate directed at a new member of the community initially generates an angry response, but ends up drawing the neighbors closer together.

I try to think things through carefully, and usually, I determine that silence is the best course of action.
